It's a re-make of the Telugu super-hit film in which Venkatesh teamed with Sounderya. In the Kannada version Ravichandran was paired with Ramyakrishnan, which too was a great hit. In it's Hindi re-make Anil Kapoor and Kajol had acted and it was a very great success.

Vijay's father a multi millionaire wants his son to take over his business and get married and settled down. But Vijay , who has just returned from USA, has different panorama about life. He wants to enjoy life and marry a woman who he loves. With all the persuasion from his father Vijay finally agrees but the female who marries him has to sign an agreement. Simran works as a secretary to Vijay's father. She belongs to a middle class family where she is the only bread earner of the family. She has responsibilities of her younger sister's marriage, settling her brother and make arrangements for her elder sister's operation. Vijay's father finds Simran to be the only person who could change Vijay. Simran agrees but when she learns about the agreement from Vijay that their marriage is only for one year and after one year if any one of them wants get out of the wedlock, can do so by getting a divorce. Simran is outraged at such a proposal of contract marriage and refuses. But when she reaches home, the burden of responsibilities compels her to marry Vijay. Vijay's father takes care of Simran's responsibilities. One year passes by; Simran does her best to spur love in Vijay's heart. But to her disappointment Vijay likes her as a friend but does not love her. The father is aghast on his son's decision to break the marriage. Simran goes back to her home. After some days Vijay starts missing Simran and realises his mistake. He goes to Simran's house to apologise and win her back. But Simran is determined that Vijay cannot be trusted and it may be one of his moods to live with her for some more time. Vijay promises Simran that he loves her and will prove it one day. Vijay does all the things she likes. He even buys the company where she works so that he can see her more often. Simran becomes pregnant and Vijay is delighted. Simran invites Vijay and his father to her house for a ceremony commemorating the arrival of the baby. She insults Vijay on this occasion by letting everybody know about the agreement. Vijay confronts back that he would always love her. The film ends with a happy finish of Vijay and Simran coming together with their baby.
